Delay Sprays and Endurance Products: What They Do

Delay products are one of the most misused categories sold in the UAE — mostly because nobody explains how they work before they are bought. They are straightforward once you know what they do, and most disappointment traces back to two things: timing and dose.

They are consumer products. Nothing here relates to a health condition, and this guide sticks to how they behave.

What actually happens

A delay spray contains a mild local numbing agent — usually lidocaine or benzocaine at low concentration. Applied to the skin and left for a few minutes, it slightly reduces surface sensitivity in that area for a period afterwards.

That is the entire mechanism. It does not work systemically, it does not build up over days, and using more does not extend the window proportionally — past a certain point applying extra mostly adds numbness rather than duration.

The realistic frame: a modest effect for a window of time, varying noticeably between people. Some notice a clear difference. Some notice almost nothing, and no amount of re-buying changes that.

Timing is where most people get it wrong

Every product has a waiting window on its label. Ten to fifteen minutes is typical; some are longer. Applying it and going immediately is the single most common reason people conclude the product did nothing.

The second most common is applying it *too* early by an hour or more, past the point the effect has peaked.

Practical sequence:

1. Test on a small patch of skin first, once, before relying on it for anything
2. Apply the smallest amount the instructions allow — one spray or one wipe, not several
3. Leave it for the full window stated on the label
4. Wipe off any excess before contact, to avoid transferring it to a partner
5. Adjust only after a couple of separate tries, not mid-evening

Dose: start lower than the label suggests

The label describes the maximum sensible amount rather than the starting point. One pump usually covers it. Two or three is where people drift into numbness that removes more than intended — and reduced sensation for a partner through transfer, even after wiping.

More is not more here. It is the clearest case in this category where restraint produces the better result.

Spray, wipe or condom

Three formats, and they suit different situations:

The male delay spray is a fine mist in a 15ml bottle. Adjustable dose, fast-drying, discreet enough to leave in a drawer. It is the flexible option.

The single-use delay wipes deliver one fixed amount per sachet. No guesswork about how much, and they travel without explanation — better if you already know your dose.

Storage in UAE conditions

Heat and sunlight degrade these products. A bathroom shelf above a shower is the worst place for them; a bedroom drawer inside the house, away from direct sun, keeps them stable far longer.

Check the expiry date. Numbing agents lose potency past it, and a spray that "stopped working" is frequently just old.

Setting expectations honestly

Three takes worth remembering before buying:

• The effect is modest and varies between people
• It depends almost entirely on following the stated timing
• Results feel much more noticeable in combination with adequate lubricant and a reasonable fit
